R & B singer Halle Bailey is now set to become a part of your world, the half of the singing duo Chloe x Halle bagged the lead role of Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Insiders say director Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) has met with many talents the last couple of months for the lead role, including Zendaya and Chloe Grace Moretz, but Bailey was a clear frontrunner from the very start.

Bailey signed up with Parkwood Entertainment and was under Beyoncé’s wing until Chloe x Halle released a studio album, The Kids are Alright. Apart from being a part of a girl group, Bailey was known for her role in Freeform’s Grown-ish in 2017.

In a statement, Marshall said: “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

According to Disney’s press release, the live action remake will feature music from the original 1989 classic including the songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The movie will also feature new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).

Along with Disney’s announcement, Bailey posted a photo of a dusky Ariel via the Chloe x Halle Twitter account with the caption “Dream come true.”

It appears that The Little Mermaid remake will feature a diverse cast. Reports confirmed that Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) have been cast as Flounder and quirky seagull Scuttle, respectively.

The 1989 classic movie was the film that started the Disney Renaissance that dominated the 90’s and beyond. The remake is a part of a new wave of live-action remakes by Disney. Along with The Little Mermaid, Disney is also coming out with Mulan. More announcements are expected in the coming weeks as production on the movie starts sometime in 2020.
