DCEU’s The Batman is on a roll! After naming the stunning Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman last month, Andy Serkis was cast as Alfred Pennyworth while Colin Farrell is ~thisclose~ to bagging the role of Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin.

Alfred Pennyworth is the butler who raised young Bruce Wayne after losing his parents. In Batman vs Superman and Justice League, Jeremy Irons played Alfred. Serkis, who is best known for his CGI/motion-capture roles, is a franchise veteran whose recent work was with Marvel having played Ulysses Klaue in the MCU and directing the Venom sequel.

Colin Farrell, on the other hand, remains in talks on playing The Penguin but is considered as a shoo-in for the role. Earlier this month, Seth Rogen was reportedly up for the role, being Warner Bros’ first choice. No news for the sudden turnaround but it’s interesting how Farrell will play the role of the eccentric villain.

Casting is still underway but we can all expect more announcements as the production starts next month! The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. It’s directed by Matt Reeves and produced by Reeves and Dylan Clark. The highly anticipated film is set for release on June 25, 2021.
