The Ice Queen is back with a vengeance, along with Olaf, Kristoff, Princess Anna and Sven! Disney just dropped a Frozen 2 teaser and in just 24 hours, it became the most watched trailer of all time! Judging by the teaser, something sinister lurks in beautiful Arendelle.
Autumn has set in; the movie has taken on a darker, more ominous tone as Elsa goes against the new elements. At the opening of the trailer, Elsa attempts to cross a stormy sea with her power, only to be swallowed by the gigantic waves.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Olaf is surrounded by flames, Anna and Kristoff
Suffice it to say, Frozen’s sequel is radically different from the wildly successful first film and it left us with lots of questions:
A Dark and Grim Arendelle?
Last time we saw Arendelle, the kingdom was bright and cheerful as Elsa gained control over her powers and restored summer. On the second installment, however, the kingdom is in danger yet again. The queen, along with her friends, takes on the adventure of a lifetime to defeat the unknown enemy.
Will the film tackle climate change?
During the first 30 seconds of the trailer, Elsa tries to cross a stormy sea with ice blasts only to be swallowed by the waves, which many viewers believe hints at climate change. If this theory turns out to be true, we think Frozen is the perfect film for spreading awareness about climate change.
Will there be a female love interest for Elsa?
Will a new character confirm Elsa’s sexuality? After the release of the first film, many fans believe that Elsa could be gay, something that Disney has yet to confirm. However, rumors swirled that Frozen’s writer and co-director Jennifer Lee is considering giving Elsa a female love interest.
Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood is attached to the film in an unknown role. The teaser featured two new characters; fueling speculations that one of these characters will play the queen’s girlfriend.
What’s the significance of the floating diamonds?
In the teaser, floating diamonds surrounded the castle and Anna looks bewildered by these strange objects. The floating diamonds are also featured in Frozen 2 posters. It seems as if the floating diamonds will play a huge part in the story.
Why do Elsa and Anna look different?
Elsa and Anna are sporting different looks in the second installment of the Frozen franchise. Anna has ditched the braids, her hair is now tied half-up, half-down. Elsa, on the other hand, is sporting a new icy blue gown with her braided locks.
Frozen 2 is directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and produced by Peter Del Vecho. It stars Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad. The film will feature songs by Oscar-winning songwriters, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Frozen 2 opens nationwide on November 22, 2019
